Education: Stanford University

Study Zone: Angie is deeply interested in understanding how the human mind works and leveraging that knowledge to enhance AI. At Stanford, she is pursuing Symbolic Systems, a multidisciplinary program combining computer science, psychology, linguistics, and philosophy. However, math has always been her favorite subject.

Superpower: Angie spent all four years of high school as a tutor, developing strengths in organization and compassion. She emphasizes the importance of preparation, always bringing practice problems and clear explanations to sessions. Angie also builds trusting relationships with her students to better understand their needs and thinking.

Proud Moments: Angie’s culture profoundly influences her life, making it especially rewarding to raise funds for Armenia. She has donated thousands to support displaced families in the Artsakh region through various fundraisers and events. Additionally, she introduced and taught Armenian dance classes at her local church, inspiring young students to connect with their cultural roots.

Alana W.

Education: Duke University

Study Zone: Alana is passionate about addressing educational inequity and aspires to become a lawyer. At Duke University, her studies focus on education, psychology, and law—subjects that are integral to understanding and addressing systemic challenges in education. Alana's goal is to use her legal education to advocate for equitable educational opportunities.

Proud Moments: A highlight of Alana's journey was appearing on the Kelly Clarkson Show to discuss her literacy charity. This initiative, which donates books to children in underserved communities, combines her love for reading with her commitment to social justice. It has been a fulfilling way for Alana to address literacy gaps and empower young learners.

Teaching Favorites: Alana enjoys tutoring math and English, with a particular passion for helping students with their essays. Guiding them through the process, from brainstorming to final edits, is incredibly rewarding for her. For Alana, it's not just about improving writing skills but also about empowering students to express their unique ideas and perspectives.

Karis S.

Education: Davidson College

Study Zone: Karis studied Hispanic Studies at Davidson College, driven by a longstanding interest in language, history, and culture. Since graduating in 2018, Karis has dedicated time to teaching students of various ages, helping them achieve their language goals. With experience teaching both privately online and in private school settings, Karis emphasizes holistic learning and skill-building to promote long-term success.

Proud Moments: Karis's superpower, aside from exceptional teaching, has always been relationship building. Karis takes pride in the strong connections developed with students and their families over the years. Most of the students Karis works with continue learning under her guidance for years, celebrating their successes together and navigating challenging classes and concepts with support and encouragement.

Teaching Favorites: Karis has been teaching Spanish for the longest time but has recently expanded her expertise to include teaching ELA subjects as well.
