“D'Elia tutored my daughter for the ACT over a course of about 9 months. We had a very hard time choosing an ACT tutor for Allie. She was scoring 21-22 on the practice ACTs and we knew we needed someone who could really deliver. We interviewed a bunch of tutors from different companies and met with the directors, then scheduled practice sessions with the tutors they assigned to Allie. None of the practices seemed to be helpful to Allie. The tutors were trying to get her to memorize various mnemonics that didn't make sense and that were very difficult for Allie to remember. The way they approached the ACT was complicated and didn't make sense to us and Allie left the sessions confused. At the last minute, we found out about D'Elia and met her and she and Allie clicked.
D'Elia understood immediately that just teaching Allie test strageties was not the way to go, and that she actually had to focus on the material and teach it to Allie. She used a trouble shooting method where she discovered Allie's weaknesses (mostly in math and grammar) and had her focus on those areas over and over until she knew the material. There were no gimmicks or tricks. Allie understood and and then started to score better. D'Elia had lots of recent practice tests that she had Allie take which really helped Allie for the days she took the actual test. Her highest scores actually ended up being her test scores and I'm happy to say that Allie scored a superscore of 31 on the ACT!! This was huge for her and we never thought she would get there after starting with such a low score. We were thrilled.
